    Smile cut in half lengthwise

A banana split consists of a banana cut in half lengthwise, with ice cream, nuts, sauce, and a few cherries on top.

I doubt if the opposite of "cut in half lengthwise" is "cut in half widthwise." YOur advice? Thanks.

If it is cut across the middle, you do not need to qualify it with "widthwise" - you only need to make it clear if cutting along the banana.
