Default to open an umbrella x to deploy an umbrella

"when the umbrella was open, it protected Hannah from the rain."

"when the stuck antenna was open, the satellite restored it's communication signal."

is "open" the best verb to be used in situations like these?

what about "to deploy"? when to use it?

thanks

Perhaps ‘unstuck’ in the 2nd one?

"Deploy" is a complicated operation. It can mean "to open" but it is not a simple opening as opening an umbrella or jar of jam. Deploy also means to send out. A general deploys his troops when he sends them into battle.

"open" should not be used in the second sentence as pointed out in the previous answer. I might use the following rearranged sentence:

The satellite's communication signal was restored when the stuck antenna was freed.
