1. The rain has been increasing. (Present Perfect Continuous)
RK: It means "More rain is falling hour by hour".
2. The rain has been increased. (??????)
RK: This is strange because it's a passive structure. Who has the rain been increased by, by god?
3. The rain is increasing. (Present Perfect)
RK: This isn't "Present Perfect". It's the present continuous. It tells us that we can see the rain getting stronger right now.
4 The rain has increased.
RK: This has basically the same meaning as number 1. Over a period of time, starting from an undescribed point in the past, the rain has gradually increased in intensity.
For example, I can't figure out the difference between 1, 2 and 4. I can't figure out what difference makes "been". It seems redundant in 2 for example.
Please help. Thank you.
