Hello Teachers,
I was watching a classic English movie one day and i found somebody saying
" Thank you for calling, Mr. Grant"
The character Mr. grant did not call(Or telephone). He simply came to visit somebody.
What does that sentence mean?

Perhaps a shortening of the old, "call on somebody", meaning to stop by and visit them.

" Thank you for calling [on me], Mr. Grant"

In the 19th and early part of the 20th century, it was common terminology to refer to a personal visit as a "call." In fact, most upper-class people carried "calling cards" with them (which were very similar to today's business cards, except they simply contained the person's name and address). If he stopped by someone's home and that person was unavailable, he'd leave his calling card with the butler in order to let the person know that he'd stopped by.
