Let us know your thoughts and we wiil tell you if you are correct. A main dish is the major part of the meal. A side dish is an extra part of the meal to make the main meal better and a dessert is a sweet treat served at the end of the meal.

As a funny aside, I always had trouble remembering how to spell

desert = sandy land
dessert = sweet treat after the main course of dinner.

I solved it when trying to spell "dessert" by thinking that "too many letter s make you fat"

Thank you for your answer.But I still have a question. Is cranberry sauce a side dish or a dessert? As we don't have it in our country I have no idea whether it is sweet or not?

Cranberry sauce is a side dish. It is usually served with a roast turkey meal. Being a berry it is somewhat sweet. Personally I would never have a turkey dinner without having cranberry sauce as well.
