log on/log in

Hey guys, I have another question. What's the difference between log in and log on?! Which of the 2 is appropriate?!

a.) You are logged in as RL.
b.) You are logged on as RL.

I think both are often used but I'm pretty sure one of them is wrong.

I think "log in" means connection with the server and "log on" means you put in your name and pass word and enter.

Hope teachers give us better explanatin.

I don't see any real difference between them- I think it's a matter of personal preference.
