1. why there is no 'the' before Victoria Peak? Don't we use 'the' before mountain names, e.g. The Himalayas, The Alps ?
2. pros & cons: I believe pro- is a prefix meaning supporter, what about "con"?
is it a prefix, too? or an abbrev.?![]()
Is it because plural mountain names have 'the'?
Mountain ranges are unique, so they require "the" [see here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/esl/eslart.html]
"pros and cons" = for and against [pro is from Latin for "for" and means "in favour"; con is an abbreviation of "contra" - against]

I understand pros and cons now. About the article 'the', the link you suggested didn't open; but I guess when you say 'unique' you mean there is only one Alps, but there can be similiar summits or peaks like Victoria Peak..
