Hmmm, not sure about this one. Full of hot air means all no talk and no action. If he says "we're (or I) gonna do this and that" but never do it, then it's fine. I think I'm being picky and it's ok, though :-p

1. That works pretty well. It could be an example of empty talk. The end would be better as "I think it was all hot air".

I heard the boss's pep talk. He was full of hot air.

2. That doesn't work. "Dream" would be better there.

The huge deal he was bringing into the firm turned out to be a mirage.
