1. Is there any other ways to say "A girl who is twenty-something?

Can we just say " a girl who is about /over/around twenty"

2.Are the following sentence correct?

"At the gate were standing a crowd of people"
" In front of the door waited a lot of fans."

You could also say "A girl in her twenties"
