Default choice

Dear teachers,

This is the question I asked the other day.:
Can I say 'She has no other choices but to lie down'?
I got different answers:

No.1
He said she had no other choice /did not have any choice/ any other choices but to lie down.

No.2
As this is one action, I should not use the plural 'choices'.

Could you please kindly explain it more?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Jiang

The plural doesn't work there for me; you have one possibility and nothing else. There is no list of other options.

The correct answer is

She has no other choice but to lie down.

If you wanted to use choices the sentence would have to be something like

She has no other choices but to lie down or run away.

Dear Naamplao,

Thank you very much for your explanation. Now I understand it. You said "The correct answer is

Then is "She has no choice but to lie down" correct?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Firstly, do you understand the meaning of this sentence?
If you are online, have a go at that, and I'll get back to you.
