Question Assess vs Appraise vs Evaluate

Hi!

I've sometimes come across phrases like these:

... assess and evaluate a student.

... assess and appraise him.

Looking them up in the dictionary I realize they all mean nearly the same. However, many times they are used together as if there is a slightly difference between them.

Anyone could explain this to me, please?

Thanks!!

I agree they are all nearly the same. However, in this context I think they mean "to test and grade"
