difference between enquire and inquire

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between enquire and inquire?

enquire is British spelling.
inquire is an American spelling.

In British English, enquire is used for something less detailed, like asking the times, prices, etc. Inquire is more detailed, like an investigation.
