| | cover, lucky, shy, explosion, drunk etc. Dear teachers,
I have six questions to ask:
No.1
A pit has cover so that nobody will fall into it. How should I express the idea if the cover is not there? Can I say:
The cover is take off?
No.2
Can I say:
It is lucky that nobody was in the room? Or I should say "Luckily nobody was in the room"?
No.3
Can I say "She is shier " instead of "She is more shy"?
No.4
How should I express the idea "explode" when I have to use the word "explosion'? Can I say "When the explosion happned'?
No.5
We can say "drunk driving" but I can't say "a drunk driver". Instead I must say "a drunken driver'. Is that right?
No.6
Could you please explain if the following sentences are correct or not?
a. Don't you really know the answer?
b. Do you really don't know the answer?
c. Do you really not know the answer?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.
Jiang

The cover has been taken off.
No.2

Either is possible, I would say: Luckily, nobody was in the room.
No.3
Can I say "She is shier " instead of "She is more shy"?
Yes, but the second sounds more natural.
No.4
How should I express the idea "explode" when I have to use the word "explosion'? Can I say "When the explosion happned'?
When the explosion took place. This is the most commonly used construction.
No.5

You will hear both, but for me the second is better.
