I think you mean "animation" to be the same as "cartoon" (that is a noun)
A
cartoon is a usually a single humourous drawing. When there are several such drawings put side-by-side then this is called a
cartoon strip.
An
animation is a series of cartoon drawings that differ from each other in a very small way. When shown one at a time very fast, the subject of the drawing appears to be in motion.
Ninja Turtles could be a
cartoon if there was a single drawing
Ninja Turtles could be an
animation if you are referring to a movie (there are several such movies)
A television show based on the Ninja Turtles could also be called an
animated cartoon or often it is just described as a
cartoon for short.
