Dear Teacher,
I am wondering if it is possible to "make a holiday"? Is it better to say "take a holiday" or "have a holiday" or "going on a holiday"?
Thank you,
Ric
Well, I suppose if you were a king, or president or leader of some sort you could "make" a holiday but most of us just celebrate, take, go on or have a holiday.![]()
In certain specific instances, you might use this phrase. For example, you are sent out of town on a business trip. You finish your business much earlier than you'd expected, and aren't scheduled to return home until late the next day. Your hotel happens to be very near a beach. So you go to the nearest store and buy a swimsuit and some sunscreen and think to yourself "might as well make a holiday out of this trip."![]()
