I have confused the form using of "verb+able" (adjective) and "verb+ed" (adjective/passive ellipsis).
For examples:
1. the payment is not accepted made by credit card
2. the payment is not acceptable made by credit card
which one is correct?
1. Payment will not be accepted if made by credit card.
2. Payment is not acceptable if made by credit card.
Both of these are correct. Can you understand why?![]()
no ...!? Pls explain as follows:
1. is it necessary put 'if' there?
2. why there 'is not accepted' is changed 'will be not accepted'?
The statement is conditional. It identifies what payments will not be accepted. The if is necessary so that the reader can understand the condition under which payment will not be accepted. It is well explained at this location: English Adverb Clauses expressing Conditions - How to Use Adverb Clauses- Grammar for English ESL TEFL EFL ESOL
Good luck![]()
1. A payment made by credit card is not accepted.
2. A payment made by credit card is not acceptable.
1. A credit card payment is not accepted.
2. A credit card payment is not acceptable.
1. Credit card payments are not accepted.
2. Credit card payments are not acceptable.
It's not really a matter of which is correct, Marie, because there are many ways that it can be expressed depending on the language situation.
