Default pronounciation and many vs. lot of

1.When is "t" pronounced as "sh"?
2.When do you use "many" vs. "a lot of"?

It isn't really "t" that is pronounced as "sh", but "ti" can have that sound, particularly in words ending in "tion" = "shun".

Many is normally used before plural countable nouns.
Much is used before uncountable nouns.

"A lot of" can be used before either type of noun.
