can you please give me some examples of speech verbs? I am having an argument with a friend. Am I correct when I say that a speech verb can be direct , reported or indirect?
e.g "No!" shouted Arthur. Arthur shouted no. etc

Yes, I think I know what you mean. Example:

Direct (quoted): Arthur shouted, "I am not going to the movies with you."
Indirect (reported): Arthur shouted that he was not going to go to the movies with me.
