Hi everyone,
Which one is correct?
I have special affinity to you.
or
I have special affinity for you.
I have a special affinity for you.
Is correct. 'Affinity' here means a spontaneous, natural liking for someone, (or something, such as a particular kind of music).
'affinity to' is used for the second meaning of the word: a similarity of characteristics suggesting that two things are 'related' somehow. This applies especially to animals, plants, languages, buildings. We might say that a new building has no affinity to contemporary architecture, meaning its design is not in line with/ a further example of modern contemporary architecture.
HI David,
Thanks for answering my query. Much appreciated.Your answer about " affinity to makes sense".
Can we say "I have a special affinity for you" also as "I have a special affinity with you" also? Or 1st preferable to 2nd?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best,
"I have a special affinity with you" makes more sense to me if you are talking of personal relationships.
