"on time" = the appointed time >> Make sure you are on time for the start of the film

"in time" = sufficiently early >> He was in time to catch the train home.

    hi,

i am just a student but i happen to have a good grammar that explains this difference:

u say "in time" when u do something not after the time limit. for example: "i arrived at the concert in time" means that u arrived comfortably before the show starts.

u say "on time" when u arrive or do something right on the scheduled time.
for example: "i arrived at the concert on time" means that if u were one minute late, the doors of the theater would be closed and u wouldn't be able to watch the show.

i hope i am right and hope it helps.

    regards.
