Smile I saw Mary in my sleep.

I saw Mary in my sleep.
I saw Mary in my dream.

Do both of the above sound right and mean about the same? Thanks.

"I saw Mary in my dream" is better, but it would have to be clear that you were sleeping. There's another kind of "dream" when you're awake.

Thanks, baqarah.
Got it.

By the way, don't native speakers say "in one's sleep?"

Re "in one's sleep."
"One" is very formal or literary.

There's nothing wrong with "in one's sleep" but I don't think it's very useful. I had a hard time thinking of an example:
"It's possible to have a heart attack in one's sleep."

I grabbed all the blanket in my sleep.
He talks in his sleep.

keep working!

Thanks, Edward, for the expressive illustrations.
