And the boys, outside of tormenting Chow Chow(a dog's name) a little bit much, they werem't so bad.


i know tormenting here is a verb. , but "outside of tormenting" ??

It has the same meaning as 'other than' or 'apart from'. 'Tormenting' is a gerund here.

This means that they torment/harass/hassle/bug the dog a bit too much, but all in all they weren't so bad.
Outside of => except for
