At the moment I'm writing a thesis and want to know whether in the Introduction part I should write my sentences using a form of the future, eg. "In chapter 2 an overview will be given". Or the present simple, eg. "In chapter 2 an overview is given". Can someone help please?
In academic English, both alternatives are frequently used. Just so long as you are consistent within your own work, it doesn't matter which you go for. Personally, I'd be inclined to use the future passive form - it has a greater aim of academic authority about it.
