As a subordinate clause, it correctly uses 'when' with the present tense.
In your first sentence there is no subordinate clause and the verb - also correctly - is in the future. But if you made it into a time clause then the verb would need to be changed to the present (and the clause would become subordinate): ''When you know the results, tell me."
