Shouldn't it be "challenging" instead of "challenged", in the same way as we say a film is "interesting" instead of "interested"? Thanks | It seems likely that you're right. But it might be the writer's way of implying that s/he thinks that the sort of teen fun is not very funny, shows no appreciation of artistic values, and is simplistic. The context would clarify this; was it a generally positive review? If so, '-ing' would be right.
