Default about redundance(quite annoying!!)

I came across a sentence that I found somewhat strange.

It read:
Boring is a town that absolutely has nothing to recommend it to the world, except the ridiculous name.

I think, in this sentence, 'it' should be removed, because 'nothing' is the object of recommend.
so I would say:
Boring is a town that absolutely has nothing to recommend to the world, except the ridiculous name.

What do you say? Please, give me the answer.

There is a difference.

In the first sentence it is the town Boring that is not recommended. In your sentence, the town Boring has nothing it wants to recommend.
