Default Pronouncing "the"

Is it true that the "the" in front of a superlative is pronounced as "thee" (that's the closest I can come with this font), just as it would in front of a word beginning with a vowel?

It's not that simple. Usually a sentence such as 'that's the closest I can come with this font' would have a schwa; but to give extreme emphasis it might have the /i:/ sound: 'She is unarguably, indisputably, the [/i:/] best singer I've ever heard.'
