I would like to go into politics
On the one hand, I would like to go into politics, but on the other hand, I don't think I want to be a public figure.
Could I say "engage in politics" instead of "go into politics?" If not, what are the alternatives? Thanks.

Re: I would like to go into politics
When you say "go into politics" that means become a public figure or help with a political party. But if you just want to look into politics or research it, you'd say that. Does that answer your queston?

Thanks, gemini.
Now I see the "go into politics," which has many meanings as you described, but what about the "engage in politics?"

Hi, Angli!
"Engage in politics" is not common usage. To the native ear it sounds awkward and cumbersome. Stick with 'go into politics'... most people will clearly understand what the phrase means.
