Anyone can help clarifying these two paragraphs. Tks.
1) In Search of Lost Time had the advantage of pointing directly enough to a central theme of the novel; a search for the causes behind the dissipation and loss of time. Far from a memoir tracing the passage of a more lyrical age, it was a practical, universally applicable story about how to stop wasting and begin appreciating one's life."

2) Though philosophers have traditionally been concerned with the pursuit of happiness, far greater wisdom would seem to lie in pursuing ways to be properly and productively unhappy. The stubborn recurrence of misery means that the development of a workable approach to it must surely outstrip the value of any utopian quest for happiness.
