Smile He started yo-yoing and was soon hooked/addicted.

He started yo-yoing and was soon hooked/addicted.

Do both hooked and addicted fit in the above sample and mean about the same? Thanks.

No, "addicted" doesn't work well there.
He started yo-yoing and was soon hooked on it.
The word "addicted" sugests a compulsion. Example:
He was addicted to nicotine, and he smoked constantly.

Thanks, Ron.

But I don't get it. Doesn't "hooked" alson suggest a compulsion? He played yo-yo constantly.

The word "hooked" has more positive connotations than the word "addicted" does. If that were not so you wouldn't be likely to hear of an organization calling itself Hooked on Phonics, would you?

On the other hand, "addicted to" is sometimes used a positive sense.
YouTube - Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love
Addicted To Rubber Stamps - World's Largest Rubber Stamp store!
Are you Addicted to the Internet?
It ("addicted to") is probably used mostly in a negative sense, but it is sometimes used in a positive sense. (When we think of addictions we usually think in terms of bad habits (drug addiction, for example).
