For example, the hula hoop, Rubik's cube, sudoku puzzles.
I can't find a dictionary reference to "fancy fads" but I've seen the expression apparently referring to electronic gadgets, like the Blueberry or iPod.
Here it seems likely that it's clothing, but let's all listen for "fancy fads" and see if it's becoming part of the language, and if so, just what it means.
