Default identifying the correct tense & the reason why

Hi
I think the first one is correct however I am struggling with the other two :-
I'm reading a book at the moment - present continous, used for an action happening now

He gets up at 8 every morning - I am unsure of the tense & the reason why

I went to France two years ago - I am unsure of the tense

Pleae can you help, many thanks

The two are fine. In the first one, the present simple shows that it's an habit, something that he does regularly. In the second one, the past simple shows that it's a finished event, precisely located in time (2 years ago).
