Smile Christians replaced these ancient myths with Christian analogies.

As holly wreaths became associated with Christmas, early Christians replaced these ancient myths with Christian analogies/comparisons. In their minds, the red berries represented the blood Jesus Christ shed when he died on a cross. So as green represented Jesus' life, red came to symbolize his death.


Do both analogies and comparisons fit in the above and mean about the same? Thanks.

No they don't. Look up their definitions in a dictionary and you will see they are very different. Analogies is the correct word here.
