Smile Their battle takes place every year with the changing of the seasons.

In one Celtic myth, the oak king and the holly king oppose each other in their desire to rule the forest... Their battle takes place every year with the changing/change of the seasons.

To begin with, what does "with" mean in the above?
Second, do both changing and change fit in the above? If not, why not? Thanks.

To begin with, what does "with" mean in the above? "with" means 'at the time of'. The geese return with the coming of Spring.
Second, do both changing and change fit in the above? Yes. If not, why not? Thanks.

Thanks, 2006.
Just to make sure, are there marginal differences between "changing" and "change" in the above?

There are no differences (in meaning); everyone knows that the (change)(changing) of the seasons occurs gradually.

change, n...the act, process or result of changing
