| | Re: "to pee" vs "to piss" "Pee" is the more polite version. It's a euphemism, in that originally it was "the P word" -- in the same way that we still talk about "the F word" or "the S word". For some reason, though, "P" took on a life of its own, and now we have the verb "to pee".
It's still informal, though. The formal verb is "to urinate", which is the verb you will usually see in, for example, newpaper reports. An old-fashioned euphemism is "to pass water", but I don't recommend using it. |

hi,
so it's perfectly acceptable to say "to pee" among friends, right?
it's not offensive or impolite, OK?
thanks |

| | Re: "to pee" vs "to piss" It's not normally offensive, but some people are more sensitive than others. But among friends it should normally be OK. |

thanks | It's not offensive but "to pee" is not enough! However as I wrote it is informal!
The whole expression would be: go for a pee
take a pee
have a pee
eg.
I need to have a pee before we leave.

| | Re: "to pee" vs "to piss" "Take a leak" is the most common expression among men in English North America.
Piss sounds vulgar, and most of the others sound childish.
If I'm talking to a woman, I'll probably say "I'm going to the washroom."
Just for fun, see if you hear "see a man about a dog." It's not common, but people do say it occasionally, and it has the same meaning.
Gotta go take a leak now.
regards
