Default participate and join

I want to know what difference between 'participate' and 'join'. When do I have to use 'participate'? When do I have to use 'join'? Could you please tell me?

Default Re: participate and join

It's a matter of usage. You participate in a discussion by taking part in it. You join a discussion by contributing something to it. You can hardly do one without the other.
