The travail in childbearing seems unbearable but when your son _____________, joy fills the air.

    * What word could I fill in the blank here?

How about 'arrives' meaning 'is born'?

The travail of childbearing seems unbearable but when your son arrives, joy fills the air.

Wouldn't it be misunderstood that ANOTHER son arrived?

I don't think so from the context. 'Arrive' is commonly used to describe the birth of a baby.

I can't think of another reason to link the travail of childbearing, and joy filling the air. Can you?

No, I can't. Just making sure it would not be vague for critical readers to comment on.

    Thanks a lot, Finta.
