The benefit I derive is solely a personal one, Rewboss. Calling it a "personal" benefit doesn't necessarily exclude financial benefit.

LGSWE

In LGSWE our approach is descriptive and, beyond that, also empirical.
Is this a quote or are these your words? (if a quote, why not quoted?)

If you have no direct, indirect, actual or potential financial benefit from your support of LGSWE and other sources you refer to, why don't you just unequivocally say so?

Now, it's the LGSWE that I'm to benefit from. Next it'll be Michael Swan's book, then Professor Bailey's writings, after that, Geoffrey Nunberg will slip me a few dollars under the table.

2006, why don't we stick to discussing the grammatical and language issues. I believe that there are numerous issues that you have yet to offer any backing for.

Obviously you leave me no choice but to assume that there may well be some selfish motive for your posts.
Accordingly, I will pay even less attention to your eccentric opinions.

Thank heavens for small mercies.

riverkid, I should like to draw your attention to the forum rules, specifically this one:

Quote:
If [...] your posts do not contribute to the topic in a positive way, they will be subject to deletion.
You admit that your motives for continually and stridently expounding your own pet theories are purely personal. I judge them to be unhelpful and, in many cases, harmful, and am supported in my views by the rest of the staff. You have been asked many times before to curb your zeal and you have ignored all such calls, preferring instead to pursue straw man arguments in an attempt to dodge the issue (and don't play the innocent victim here; you're not stupid and I wasn't born yesterday), and to belittle and insult anyone whose opinion differs from yours. Any further behaviour of this sort will result in your posts being edited or deleted, infractions being awarded and/or any such action as is deemed necessary to ensure that ESLs get the answers they need without having to endure your personal vendetta against people you regard as heretical.

Incidentally, FYI, I have no vested interest whatsoever in being a moderator.
