    out of one's skull?< what does it mean?

    and I take the idiom from the sentence " he bombed out of his skull"
    and I am totally lost in what it means.

    and....

    some author is big with screenwriters.<- what does it mean?
    (guess it means the author affects screen writers?"

    Screenwriters adapt books into film scripts. So, in this context, it means that this particular author's works are a popular source for screenwriters to turn into film scripts to submit to studios.
