Smile While most of his family is/are medically-minded--

While most of his family is/are medically-minded--his father and two brothers are all doctors--Wang's passion has always been music.


To begin with, would you use is or are in the above?
Second, what exactly does "medically-minded" refer to? Does it equate "medicine-oriented?" Thanks.

I would say ‘While most of his family’ takes a plural verb. ‘Medically-minded’ most likely means ‘trained in the medical field’ and so on.

But I'm under the impression that "Medically-minded" implies that "most of his family have 'becoming doctors' in their mind.
