| They are substantively different: set great store by something = to consider something to be of great importance or value >> I set great store by Christmas as a festival [I consider Christmas as a festival to be of great value] Attach importance to something = to attach a particular quality to something is to consider it to have that quality >> I attach great importance to the announcement that Christmas is here [I consider the announcement that Christmas is here to be important] |
