In Italy, luck for the new year comes with eating the right kind of food.
I can't figure out why it's "luck for the new year" because it makes more sense to me to say "luck of the new year." So, what's your advice? And what does "for" refer to in the sample? Thanks.
Luck for the New Year is correct because luck is something you have or do not have. So in this wish you are wishing the person has luck during the new year.
