determining the function of a word

i would like to know the use of especially in these sentences.

I miss my teacher especially his class.
I miss my teacher especially.

is it possible for an adverb to function as an adjective? prepositional phrases which are usually used as adverbs of place may be used as adjectives, but is it also possible for one word adverbs to be used as adjectives? if it is so, could you please show me some examples. thanks.

Especially is an adverb.

I am not sure I have understood your question, but I will try to give an answer, anyway.

There are some words named flat adverbs. They have the same form as their advective equivalents.

e.g. Hard can be an adjective or an adverb. It depends on the function it plays in the sentence.

He is a hard worker. - adjective

He works hard. - adverb

More flat adverbs : early, late, fast and others.
