When someone farts in a room, others will cover their noses with their hands usually. What is the action word I can use when describe the action: 'cover their noses with their hands.?

Well, people will often "hold" their noses, by which we mean they pinch it between thumb and forefinger so that no air can go in through the nose. Other than that, I don't know of any special word for this.
