Default roundup of news

Hi,

I have some difficulty in understanding the bracketed clause. Could anyone do me a favor?

CBS had begun a regular television service only months earlier, providing two fifteen-minute news programmes on each weekday (described by the station as a 'roundup of news, together with the lastest bulletins and background developments. ')

Thanks you.

It means that in addition to current stories (those occurring at the time of the broadcast), the stations developed a round-up (metaphor for gathering together stragglers from a cattle herd) of other news that the audience might want to know.
