Default Which sentence makes sense?

Dear Teachers,

Which of the sentences below makes sense?

I am trying to learn programming and this is exhausting; I should select what I think is important to read, all based on my poor background knowledge of it.

I am trying to learn programming and this is exhausting, for I should select what I think is important to read, all based on my poor background knowledge of it.

The first is ok; replace "for" with "so" in the second, and it will be ok. I would omit "all" in front of based.
