Advise/Advice

As a native English speaker I am not able to distinguish between both words; not even my comtemporaries here at work. The dictionary reads...

Advise: to give counsel to; offer an opinion or suggestion as worth following.
Advice: an opinion or recommendation offered as a guide to action, conduct, etc.

Can you please show me how to use them in a sentence, and tell me the difference between both words?

In the UK, it's simply that 'advice' is the noun, and 'advise' is the verb.
Give some advice/the advice we give all beginners is....
He is advised to keep warm/advised against going out in the cold.
In the States, don't they also spell the noun as 'advise'?

Yes, you are right. I have been preparing for a supervisory exam and advise/advice may one of the questions. I just want to make sure that I use the word correctly.
