Default library

Hi there,

Should we put an article before 'library'?

For example
I go to library every day after school. OR
I go to the library every day after school. OR
I go to a library every day after school.

thanks

tim

Tim,

I go to library every day after school.
I go to the library every day after school.
I go to a library every day after school.

All of the above are correct.
Here in India, it is common to use an article, so "the library" or "a library" is always right.

I go to library every day after school.
Incorrect
I go to the library every day after school.
Correct. This would be taken to mean your school library, or town library, or would be referring to the library most of you use.
I go to a library every day after school.
Correct, if there are a lot of libraries in your city, and you perhaps go to various libraries from week to week.( Using 'a' means you are not referring to any library in particular.) Because this is unlikely to be your meaning, then whilst it is strictly grammatically correct, the meaning is different and would lead the reader to wonder, just how many libraries ARE there where he lives that he can pick and choose???
