Default a shoulder-padded world

Hi,

From the following context:

The 7 Habits came out just as we entered the 1990s. Suddenly, aspiring to be a `Master of the Universe' in a shoulder-padded world did not seem to satisfy, and people were ready for a different prescription for getting what they really wanted out of life.

What is the "shoulder-padded world"? Is it possible that the author implied the world of businessman? Just guest from the shoulder-padded suit, ha ha ha.

Tks, :D

It refers to the suits that women, especially, wore in the 1980s.

so, from the context, is it supposed to imply the "world of high society" or "world of wealth" instead of "world of businessman"?

The world of women in business. Women wore suits and blouses that had shoulder pads sewn into the garment. It made the upper part of the torso look wider, stronger. :) In nature, the male mammal tends to have a wider upper-torso which makes the male look bigger and hence stronger.

I need a very specific explanation, u know, i don't want to translate them into my language if I'm still unclear. That's why I always ask a lot of weird questions. :D

Tks again.

I don't think your questions are weird at all; if anything, you should ask more questions. :D

All the best,
