Can you help me answer this question

This is .......... that
a) the same as
b) different that
c) the same that
d) the different from

... and I'd appreciate a lot if you could add an explanation

Look at the original sentence - it ends in "that"; so out of the alternatives which is the only one that will fit?

Probabely the first one .... This is the same as that ... but I am really not sure about it, because I've found several examples of usage ... This is different from that ... in Google as well.

Ah, but option d was not "different from" but "the different from".

So yes, #a is the correct answer.
